I wanted to share the letter below from TPS regarding our class donation to Start High School. Congratulations, Class of '68!

A quick reminder, we are having our class “Fundango,” out at Maumee's Fallen Timbers shopping center, this evening, at the Granite City (gcfb.com) restaurant.  If you need directions on how to get there I have included what will hopefully work as a link: Get Directions. Our social event is scheduled to begin at 6 and last until whenever, but, we have been told that they have “Happy Hour” prices on selected foods and beverages from 3 until 6, so we told the manager to expect a significant number of us to be there by 5:30.

On a side note, I was recently in Bowsher High School, and while there, I noticed that the “Dunsmore Drum” was sitting there in the Bowsher display case. I was initially very pleased to see it because I was thinking that our once tradition of having a Start vs. Bowsher rivalry trophy had been revived. But then, upon some reflection, I remembered that Start beat Bowsher in football this year (I think for at least the last two years), and I am now guessing that the rivalry trophy tradition has been discontinued and that the Dunsmore Drum is currently on display at Bowsher on a permanent basis. If I am correct, then I would be disappointed.

You should have opened the case and brought it back to Roy C Start

Gary, Sad, this is the only thing you saw.  Our city is thriving and downtown is coming back.  I thought you noticed that at the reunion.  Oh well, love you anyway.

Kim Wening, you are too kind: It is dishonest and deceitful, Gary, to imply that the entire city of Toledo is somehow inferior or pathetic, using just a photo of a half-demolished building. They exist in every city of this great country!

It's so easy for someone who doesn't live here anymore to post a picture depicting Toledo as being a rundown city. I would like to know where that picture was taken. I think it might be where there are older buildings being torn down for new developments on the Eastside, but seeing that Gary didn't bother to say where it is is very misleading on his part. I'm sure there are area's where he lives that aren't as picturesque as the pics he put on his profile. California does have it's run down bad area's also. So the next time you are here in Toledo Gary, look me up and I will show you how Toledo is becoming a Better Place to Live than what you have decided to show!

So much is happening in Toledo. Those that came back for the reunion saw much of downtown that is new, updated, renovated and fresh. The committee’s goal was to reintroduce alums from out of the city to the “new” Toledo. Nearly all the new apartments and lofts downtown are sold or rented. Have you seen the plans for the park and development on the east side of the river? Very exciting and a great addition to the east side neighborhood. Just like other Rustbelt Cities, we have much work to do but are well on the way.

I lived in Toledo for the first 18 years of my life and I must admit that I did not care for the Toledo of old. Since getting out in the world via the Marine Corps I had an opportunity to see and live in many parts of this wonderful country. From Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to Beautiful Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station, Hawaii. I hadn't been able to spend much time in Toledo these past 50 years since we graduated from Start High but being in town for approximately 10 days during our reunion really opened my eyes. The down town area is almost completely revitalized and areas out Sylvania way that were nothing but woods are now thriving and beautiful communities. Needless to say I now have a much greater appreciation for Toledo so much so that when the Queen and I escape the brutal heat of Las Vegas summers we are now going to consider spending those three months back in Toledo. I compliment those of you who stayed in town and helped to make Toledo a better and more beautiful place to live.

Hey all!  If you're living anywhere with this cold spell right now hope you're keeping safe & warm.  Are we still having the Fundango at Hollywood Casino this Friday (Feb. 1) @ 11:30 AM?  If so, hope to see you there!

Dale Benington

Cheryl, Yes, we are still planning on having our Fundango tomorrow, at 11:30. Our guess is that with the Polar Vortex ending Thursday afternoon, and temperatures rising (some) on Friday, those of us that are suffering from cabin fever will welcome the opportunity to spend some time socializing at the Hollywood Casino’s, Epic Buffet.
