I had posted the following on my Facebook page and Pat Gilbert asked me to share it here, since we are all of "a certain age". Haha
As just one more piece of evidence that I am moving toward "Old Man Syndrome" my eye doctor has been telling me for a while that my cataracts were growing and I would eventually have to get something done about them. Well, I don't know about you, but the thought of somebody cutting into my eyeball just scared the crap out of me so I took the prudent course and ignored the advice. But last year I had a lung issue that fortunately a temporary regimen of steroids provided the remedy for. But downside, the steroids also accelerated the growth of the cataracts. By this Spring it was increasingly apparent that something would have to be done, my vision (particularly at night) was getting barely marginal at best. So, man up, time to get the surgery scheduled. Had my right eye (the worse one) done last Thursday. Immediately afterwards in the recovery room my distance vision was remarkedly better. But three hours later, it kind of fell off a cliff, nothing was in focus with the right eye. Oh oh, what have I done? At the follow up appointment the next day the doctor seemed unconcerned (oh sure, it's not your eye that can't see buddy) and said vision would improve as the swelling in the eye went down. Well, by Saturday afternoon magically it did. I even had to take the right lens out of my glasses cuz I could see so much more clearly without that corrective lens than I could with it. Now my formerly good left eye is much worse than my right and I am looking forward to round two in two weeks when I get that eye done. Tritely, but incredibly, it's like night and day. Clarity and color recognition is amazingly better. I even could see the race marks from a significant distance when out sailboat racing tonight. Whoopee! Life is good again. So, decide for yourself, but if you've been avoiding it like I was you may want to rethink the concept.
