Sue, so sorry for your loss.Prayers to you and your family.
My son gave a kidney to his wife on Wednesday at Cleveland clinic. I brought them home Friday. I couldn't be with them cuz of covid. Walked them to the hotel lobby at midnight Tuesday so the Cleveland clinic policeman could shuttle them to their different entrances. I went home Wednesday after I heard they were OK. I got discharge instructions over the phone Friday. Picked them up and got home about7:30. She has to be back at 7 am Monday for labs and 4 hr infusion. Please keep us in your prayers. Bill and Cathy, praying for you guys too. And all other Spartans dealing with difficuties.

Hey everyone, sorry to hear about some of our Alumni form our class and others having some loss and health issues...my prayers and sympathy goes out to all of them.

Just to update everyone on my situation. I received my final prosthetic foot on Weds and started walking without holding on to anything 10 min after they had me up.....feels so good to stand and walk again on 2 feet!!!!  I wear my leg and foot bout 4-5 hrs a day. Some walking with the walker sometimes without...still gaining my balance and getting used to the device...it weighs 10 pounds so kinda heavy.

I want to thank everyone who sent me messages and prayers and offered their help to me. It is greatly appreciated. I know some of you who sent me messages were dealing with your own health issues and I thank you for taking the time to help me in my time of need. I pray for everyone that they get better and heal real soon.

If I can help out in anyway please don't hesitate to ask, I will do whatever I can to help those in need of assistance.

So, stay as healthy as you can....WEAR a MASK, Stay 6 Feet Away and we can lick this virus!!!!!!

All my prayers,

Frank

Frank - so glad to hear it's going well with your new leg.  You are now bionic.  Continued prayers for you & for all of our classmates each & every morning.  Everyone please take care & be safe.  A mask for a few hours is better than a ventilator for any length of time.

Bill is going to Cleveland Clinic for a battery of tests Thursday and Friday. He is preparing for an extraction of t cells the next week. The t cells will be genetically modified to become cancer killers, and will be reintroduced into his blood stream at the end of August. From there, we pray that he is cured of Non Hodgekins Lymphoma. Modern medicine!

Congratulations Frank, take it easy and don't over due it. Bill you are under the care of the finest Doctors in the country. It is rated America's 2nd best hospital, but from what I know about it, it is the best hospital system in the country. Listen to your doctors, and thoughts and prayers from Southwest Florida. Wear your mask, social distance, and stay safe.

Bill and Cathy, Living in the Cleveland area I am very familiar with the Cleveland Clinic. Just had another back surgery three weeks ago there. Bill is in good hands. Would love to get together if he needs to see them again.

I had posted the following on my Facebook page and Pat  Gilbert asked me to share it here, since we are all of "a certain age". Haha

As just one more piece of evidence that I am moving toward "Old Man Syndrome" my eye doctor has been telling me for a while that my cataracts were growing and I would eventually have to get something done about them. Well, I don't know about you, but the thought of somebody cutting into my eyeball just scared the crap out of me so I took the prudent course and ignored the advice. But last year I had a lung issue that fortunately a temporary regimen of steroids provided the remedy for. But downside, the steroids also accelerated the growth of the cataracts. By this Spring it was increasingly apparent that something would have to be done, my vision (particularly at night) was getting barely marginal at best. So, man up, time to get the surgery scheduled. Had my right eye (the worse one) done last Thursday. Immediately afterwards in the recovery room my distance vision was remarkedly better. But three hours later, it kind of fell off a cliff, nothing was in focus with the right eye. Oh oh, what have I done? At the follow up appointment the next day the doctor seemed unconcerned (oh sure, it's not your eye that can't see buddy) and said vision would improve as the swelling in the eye went down. Well, by Saturday afternoon magically it did. I even had to take the right lens out of my glasses cuz I could see so much more clearly without that corrective lens than I could with it. Now my formerly good left eye is much worse than my right and I am looking forward to round two in two weeks when I get that eye done. Tritely, but incredibly, it's like night and day. Clarity and color recognition is amazingly better. I even could see the race marks from a significant distance when out sailboat racing tonight. Whoopee! Life is good again. So, decide for yourself, but if you've been avoiding it like I was you may want to rethink the concept.

Kent I had both eyes done and the article is right the colors are much brighter and sharper and more brilliant, I don't know if this bothers anyone else but sunlight really bothers me now I used to be able to wear nice sunglasses that looked really nice , now I'm wearing like blind man real dark sunglasses and the sun still bothers my if it's glaring off something bright , it could be just me I have to ask my eye doctor

Kent,

I'm glad to hear that your vision has improved.

My youngest daughter had cataract surgery on both eyes when she was about 35. That's unusual, but it's not just us "old folks" who need to have it done.

CAUTION: Florida is on the list of quarantine states bt the Ohio governor. You have to go into quarantine if you come in from there for 14 days.

I might as well stay here and keep quarantined.

Hey Kent, I had to have both my eyes done back in 1988. I damaged them welding. I didn't get my shield down in time and looked right at the point of spark, Dr said it was like looking directly into the sun . I wasn't able to see well at night Dr said I had cataracs right in the center of eye and needed implants. Had them done ....it was like night and day after both surgeries colors were brighter could see at night again. I just think they are permanant contacts...don'r have to ever have take them out or ever have to clean them. I wish they would have had the newer type that lets you read without glasses but hey technology over the years makes it better today for those who have the surgery.

So hang in there your vision will get better I know mine did after about 5-7 days.

Becuse the weather didn't cooperate last Saturday, our estate sale will be held again this Saturday, August 8, starting at 8 AM. Most prices will be even lower. The sale is a combination of family and the estate of a 97 year old grandmother. Lots of vintage linens, baskets, kitchen ware, queen and king size bed conforters, decorative pillows, miscellaneous furniture. Take King Rd,  two blocks north of Central, turn left at Covert (second street). Go all the way to the end.

Honoring our classmates Ken Johnson, Dave Hill, Al Evner & anyone I may have missed and their brothers and sisters who were awarded the Purple Heart.

Purple Heart Day is observed on August 7 each year and is a time for Americans to pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who were either wounded on the battlefield or paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives. Thankfully the class of 68 lost no one in the Viet Nam war. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

Remember - Honor - Teach

Pat,

Thanks for listing our SHS '68 Purple Heart recipients. I thought that Bill Ginsler was also in that group of recipients, and I didn't know there was a Purple Heart Day.
