Dale Benington

Nancy, I confess, I was trying to add a new twist to our “Fundango” process, seeking to make things a bit more interesting (as opposed to the "same old, same old”). My original intention was to throw the hook out there and wait for a nibble or two, with the hope that I had gotten more people thinking about our “Fundango.” But maybe your idea is a better one, “clues.”

OK, first clue, think “Mexican” (that Ed, he is constantly wanting to go to these Mexican restaurants).

Nancy Wolff (Szymanski)

Gosh Dale - that narrows it down to about 50 or 60.  How about a clue on location?

Hey, if Ed wants to have his own Fangango in Mexico, who are we to stop him?

Dale Benington

Awwww thanks Nancy, right on cue (I was afraid that I was going to have to provide my own prompt).

And just to make it interesting, I’ll buy one of the Tuesday night specials ($6.95 I believe) for whoever is the first to guess the name and location of where our February “Fundango” is going to be.

So here is my clue. Imagine that back in our days at Start HS, our class had put on a class play (make it a musical) and we decided to do “Hello Dolly,” and we gave the leading male musical role to Joe Goodell. Then, after the play, we all could have gone out and had a dinner in the very same building where we are having of February "Fundango.” So what is the name and location of our next “Fundango” (and no Ed, you aren’t allowed to give away the answer).

Joseph Goodell

Dale , I can't believe you remembered the musical I sang  in Hello Dolly but it was in New York . I also remember the other place San Marcos on BROADWAY ?

Nancy Wolff (Szymanski)

Sorry I was a bit late on the prompt, Dale.  It sounds like we're going to Dolly & Joe's off Reynolds Rd.  I totally forgot that place is under new management & serving Mexican food.

Nancy, you are too too sharp! Very creative clue and great answer!

02/16/18 02:27 PM #2490

Dale Benington

Well Joe, you are right about the name of the February "Fundango" restaurant, it is San Marcos, however, you are wrong about the location, it is NOT the one located on Broadway, by the High Level Bridge (we have already been there).

Nancy, you are right about the location of the February "Fundango," and correct about it being the old Dolly and Joe’s Restaurant, off of Reynolds Road (1045 S. Reynolds Rd. to be exact). However ..... technically ....

Please excuse the interruption to the discussion concerning your next Fundango, but I have an important message.

As you all know, your amazing Classmate Denny Hall is going to be posthumously inducted into the Start High School Hall of Fame next Saturday.  We have extended the deadline to reserve a spot at the induction ceremony at the reduced price of $50 per person (it's $65 if you pay at the door), but you must respond today!  It's also not too late to make a donation in Denny's memory and have your name included in the printed program, but once again, you must respond today. (Nothing like a deadline to get you motivated, right?) As of the time I'm writing this, my fellow graduates from the Class of '66 have made donations this year totaling $5300 in honor of Willy Aey and in memory of our three Classmates who passed away in 2017: Dee Carr, Bill Tadsen and Kathie (Zuercher) Myers.

So far, there is one table of ten reserved for the Class of '68 to witness Denny's induction.  Considering the great turnout you have every month at your Fundangos perhaps a larger group of you might want to join the festivities.  The Class of '66 often uses the Hall of Fame event as a mini-reunion opportunity generally having 3 tables each year. The banquet is going to be held Saturday, February 24th, starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Holiday Inn, French Quarter, 10630 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg, OH  43551.  If you are interested in either attending in person, or making a donation in Denny's memory, please send me an email note to me at Start66@bex.net so I can reserve a spot and/or add your name to the list of donors in the printed program.  Remember, too, that all donations go toward funding scholarships that are awarded each year to deserving current Start graduates. All donations are tax deductible, since the Start High Hall of Fame is 501(c)3, non-profit organization.

To make it easy for you, I've added a Ticket/Donation Form that you can click on to download a PDF that can be filled out right on your computer.  You can then print it out and mail it in with your check to the P.O. Box listed on the form.

Hope to see many of you next Saturday!

Anyway common gang get out your check books and make a pledge!!

P.S. the Donation is the same price as the ticket so if anyone want to go you can use my ticket! Let me know. ...Aloha! :)

Hey everyone, just a quick reminder that tonight, over at the San Marcos restaurant, located at the old Dolly & Joe’s (1045 S. Reynolds Road), we will be having our February "Fundango.” Hope to see you there.

Happy Friday!

The reunion committee is searching for lost teachers! If you have contact information for any of the teachers and administrators from Start who are still living, please get that information to one of the committee members. We are aware of a couple but need many more.

Jan - At my sister's '65 reunion, they invited Rita Rynder who lives in Indiana (rjrynder@yahoo.com); Bob Conley (bch2oside@bex.net); Rick St. John (rstjohn@bex.net).  She has others that they contacted, but didn't have emails for.  Said she'd check her file and see which other teachers they invited, and their addresses.  Whichever dinner they came to, the class paid for it.  Marcia

Thanks so much Marcia!!!

Dale Benington

Oh my gosh, the Ides of March slipped right past me, without me recognizing it. This past week and weekend I let myself get so caught up in March Madness, the NCAA wrestling tournament, the NCAA Ladies Frozen Four, and the Lady Rams of Toledo Rogers HS winning a state championship in basketball, that I forgot to post our “Fundango” information (sorry Ed).

So here is what we got; last Tuesday, Ed and I went downtown, ate some lunch, talked with a manager, and arranged for our March “Fundango” to be held on Tuesday, March 27th, at the downtown, Tony Packo's.

We will have their back room and if we are lucky, we just might catch them in the process of switching beer vendors (and dumping their current stock of beer beverage at bargain prices, if we are lucky).

So once again, our March 27th “Fundango” is at the downtown Tony Packo's Restaurant (across from the Washington Street side of the Mud Hen Fifth/Third Field), located at 7 South Superior Street, with a free parking lot situated directly across the street.

Hope to see you there.

So sorry I'll be missing everyone next Tuesday, but as long as you have Fundangos the 4th Tuesday of the month you won't be seeing me.  Have fun!
