EDWARD PETRYK OBITUARY

Edward Adam Petryk Jr.

On Saturday, June 11, 2022, Edward Adam Petryk, Jr. started his journey to be with his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed the day with his two oldest grandsons before he passed. He went to Caden's graduation from high school and sat with Jacob during the ceremony. He also cherished his youngest grandson, Dean, who would brighten his life by his baseball games with his dad. He was born on June 23, 1950, to Edward and Helen (Banko) Petryk in Toledo, OH.

Ed attended Regina Coeli Catholic School and graduated from Roy C. Start High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1970-1972.

Ed married Patricia Ann Nietrzeba on August 4, 1972. They had a loving marriage that lasted almost 50 years. They were blessed with 2 loving children and a special son that came into his life after his retirement and three handsome grandsons. Ed was very proud of all the accomplishments that his children and grandchildren achieved.

Ed worked at the Chrysler Toledo Machining Plant and a variety of jobs in the auto industry. He was hired to work at Johnson Controls Battery Division in 1992 and worked there until 2015. He was always willing to help others and he worked the Funeral Luncheon Program at Regina Coeli Church.

After he retired, he enjoyed attending classic car shows together with his wife. Ed had a 1947 Chrysler Royal and his wife drove a 1983 Dodge Shelby Charger. They called themselves the Cruising Grandparents. He also enjoyed helping his wife with her crafting group. The ladies of the group really treasured him because he would serve them coffee.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; daughter, Michelle Ann (Christopher) Martin and son, Edward Adam (Meghan Benz) Petryk III; "special son", Michael Larrow and three loving grandsons, Caden Alexander Martin, Jacob Louis Martin, and Dean Benz Petryk. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Dennis) Holt and nieces and nephews, Jacqueline Hansen, Kimberly Holt, Gregory Holt, Anthony Holt, Richard Nietrzeba, Kevin (Chris) Nietrzeba, Lora (John) Rombach, and many great nieces and great nephews. Also surviving Ed are his special sister, Cathy Brown and special brother, Dennis Hegedus. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Carol Petryk; brother-in–law, Richard Nietrzeba; sister-in-law, Christine Nietrzeba; nephew, Steven Nietrzeba and his aunts and uncles.

Viewing will be held at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. from 2 - 8 p.m. on Friday, June 17 with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 Burial Corps will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

I guess I'm not smart enough to repost a picture here, but if you look on page 181 of our Senior Year yearbook there is a pic of John playing with his band at a sock hop.

I was in a couple of garage bands. We played a few dances at Start, a lot of frat parties and other unsupervised events, and had a running gig at a bar in B.G. All underage and never got busted; couldn't do that today.

Oh boy, this is very sad news.  Bob and I were very close friends in high school, and even managed to see each other a couple of times after that.  He was a good friend.  His family and friends will be in my prayers.  Rest in peace, good buddy, and know that you will be missed.

For those classmates that lost track of Bob after his move to SoCal. He changed his name to Kay and became a mortgage broker. My wife and I were eating dinner at Marie Callendar and this guy come up to us and says aren't  you Pat Gilbert from Start High in Toledo? And all I could say was "Koochie.. Koochie... Koo!!!!". Bob had that kind of a face. His wife Shelly, Bob. La-Li and I had desert and exchanged numbers and we began playing golf at his home course Simi Valley Golf course several times per month. Had some great times.

Every year we would use our veterans benefit " Birdies for the Brave " and go out to Riveria CC and catch the Mercedes Benz open final day. We even sneaked into the club house a few times.

And every Vetetans day Bob would pick me up and we would go have a free breakfast at the local Denny's and after work  dinner at several places! Lol.. Bob had it down... To avoid the line we would sit at the bar. Start off with a steak dinner at Applebees. Then do the same at Olive Garden but this time take a few bites and take the rest to go. Then it was off to BJ burgers and get next days lunch to go. We had so much fun.

Bob & Shelly finally retired and bought a condo in Palm Springs where he took a job as a golf course Marshall so he could play golf for free until his stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis 6 years later. He went fast, 7 months and kept it to himself. I'm going to miss my golf buddy especially on Vetetans day ;)..  Catch you on the other side buddy.. Fore!

Mr. Jacobson did his best to turn us reckless rock n' rollers into serious musicians (in my case, it almost worked). I remember him very fondly.

My brother Bill has been struggling with post Covid pneumonia for a month now in hospital on Oxygen.  He is recovering slowly, but it is tough on both him and Cathy.  Please put extra good vibes and prayers out there for both.  I visited him a lot and, of course,  got Covid myself and so did Linda.  We both are recovered now.  Bill is now at Regency Hospital on rehab and working hard to be able to get home asap.
