Obituary

William “Bill” F. Carstensen, 72, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born on April 11, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio to Walter and Louise (Kendrick) Carstensen and he married Catherine A. Burcewicz.

Affectionally known as “Wild Bill”, Bill proudly served in the Army National Guard and was a competition marksman. He was employed with Trane Company for many years, working in service and sales for commercial HVAC. Bill was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Holland-Springfield. When he wasn’t working or using his excellent home repair skills he enjoyed golf, bowling as well as cooking and grilling. He loved to visit casinos worldwide, watch thunderstorms, hummingbirds, finches, and Judge Judy. Bill also had an undiagnosed OCD of his lawn maintenance. Bill liked popcorn but had a sweet tooth too and enjoyed his Graeter’s black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream in his personal pint coozie and dark chocolate. During his travels, Bill once drank a cruise ship out of Drambuie because of fondness for rusty nail cocktails. He could burp the alphabet and was the “pull my finger” specialist. Bill was a great teacher to his grandchildren and the family will miss everything about him. He was a loyal husband, caring and supportive father, grandfather, and great friend to many.

Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years Catherine; daughter, Elizabeth (Michael) Schapker; son, William F. Carstensen Jr. esquire (not because he’s an attorney, but a knight in training); grandchildren, Haley, Josh, Tyler and Ryan; siblings, Karen (Tom) Kurtz, twin brother, Walter "Chip" (Linda) Carstensen, Karol Carstensen, Mary Kay Carstensen (Ken Kriva); sisters in law, Linda Burcewicz and Susan Carstensen; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by mother and father Walter and Louise Carstensen; mother-in-law, Helen Burcewicz; brother, Ken Carstensen; brother-in-law, Mike Burcewicz; and grandchildren, Alex and Alyssa.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm in the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E.S. Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133). Funeral services and burial will be private. Memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to The Victory Center (Toledo Ohio), Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Nationwide Children's Hospice

Cathy and Chip,

I am so sad to hear of Bill's passing.  I hope the words of support received from the entire class are able to offer you solace.

I know Bill had many friends, but more important, I don't think anyone didn't like him.

May God bless you and your family in this trying time.

Sincerely,
Jim

As of August 2nd we have now lost 79 classmates out of 239 that is close to one third of our classmates and friends. So I ask that you reach out to those classmates and friends that are still here, let them know you do think about them, maybe pray for them. or just give them a call and say hi how are you doing, can I help you in anyway as a classmate and friend. I know it will be appreciated. I do it, I call several classmates that I have numbers for just to check on them see how they are doing or if they need help with anything.

Some still have wives and husbands others may not and live alone. We should find out those that are alone to make sure they are alright. That they have someone who cares about them. I live alone but have a couple classmates that call me. Actually Jerry Thaxton called me Weds to see how I was doing. We are going to meet for lunch next week. I called him a couple months ago and reconnected with him. But others may not know how to reach out or lost track of old clasmates and friends or can't find them and may need some help locating them.

If anyone on here would like a phone call once in awhile or get out and meet for lunch to talk....send me your phone number and we can keep in touch and check up on each other. i have lost several friends over the last 5 yrs. once they are gone it is hard to find new friends when we get to be our age.

So these are just my thoughts on how we might help each other out in times of need or just be a friend to talk to and listen.

My number is 419 878 9474 anyone can call me anytime day or night.

May God bless you all and we all have Peace and Love !!!!!!

Cathy, Linda and I want to thank all of you who came to the funeral home, or were there in spirit for Billsyvisitation.  We interred Bill today after a beautiful ceremony and he is at rest.   Frank Bialecki put a great post on the website that we all should read and follow.  Connections with others are the fabric of life.   There are always people in need of comfort, friendship, or just to BS.  Let's all make more effort to reach out to others, especially classmates, with open arms.

I agree that Franks's post is a great sentiment to follow. Friends are one of life's greatest gifts. BTW, my recollection is that our class size was in the neighborhood of 450.
