Dale,

If you are in Turkey, you’re in what was the epicenter of the early Church. Italy came later. Even the original Saint Nicholas (aka – Jolly Old St. Nick) was a Bishop from Turkey.

Constantine, after whom Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) was named, was the first Roman Emperor to offer toleration for Christianity (Edict of Milan). He also called for the Council of Nicaea and took part in the discussions of what official Christian beliefs should be. The Nicaean Creed came from this council. Constantine considered himself the Emperor of the Christian people and was baptized shortly his death. Within a little more than three decades after his death, Christianity became the official and only religion within the Roman Empire.

The Hagia Sophia in Constantinople was the largest Christian Cathedral in the world for many for centuries. I hope that you got a chance to visit it.

(I guess that I was a history teacher for too long.)

Mark

Thanks, Marge, for your diligence in taking pictures of the fundangos (and the names).  It's good to see Roger back - glad you're doing better, bud.  Is it me, or is everyone looking younger at these get-togethers?  Glad that Mark could make it too - see what you've been missing?  Looks like everyone had a good time.  Depending on the dates of the July or August events, I'd love to join you.  If not, I'll see you at the reunion.

To the Great Class of '68 - have a safe & Happy 4th of July!  A heartfelt "thank you" to all who served in the military protecting our freedom & especially those who gave their lives for our freedom.  We take so much for granted because it's always been there.

I hope to see everyone at our 50th reunion.  I recently watched the video fron our 20th reunion - what a blast from the past!

Susan Ehrhardt (Hancock)

Marge, great pictures.  Wish it had worked out for me to attend...maybe another month.

Gary, thanks for posting Pat Keller's obit.  It sure seems like we keep losing many classmates.  Live each day!

Roger, good to see you out and about!  You will be WALKING into the reunion, sure as shootin.

Mark, thanks for the lesson on Turkey.  Some I knew, but not all.  We only got to visit the area around Athens and Ephesus...Truly fascinating and packed with history.

This last vacation cost me a broken wrist, broken elbow, bruised ribs, cuts, scrapes, a screwed up camera and above all else, MY DIGNITY.   Maybe I need to start staying close to home!  Then I can concentrate on attending more Fundangos.

Sue,

I'm glad you enjoyed the pics.  It is great catching up at the Fundangos. Sorry to hear about your injuries. Hope you are on the mend soon, and that you still enjoyed your vacation! Looking forward to seeing you at the reunion. Take care. - Marge (I was not able to send in Private Message to you)

This is an open question to the powers to be, reference the reunion.  Every Monday in the paper is a section called "Our Towns", and there are general listings for various groups/libraries etc, etc. for upcoming events that might be of interest to the general public.

They have a special section for REUNIONS, usually there are over 10 reunions listed.  In fact Start High Class of 67 had their reunion listed in the paper last year., Anyhow, with the amount of talk on our site, about classmates, helping to provide information, and or recurting "MISSING" classmates to join our site, I would think that we would want to cover all bases, and hopefully have some missing classmates respond to the information that they would "finally" see in the paper

I would think that we should be having our information on this section of the paper, every week until our reunion arrives.  Who knows how many missing classmates just might be pushed into finally contacting the site, or plan to attend.

This is just a thought, and frankly, the powers to be have done an excellent job with everything, that's why I am surprised at this omission.  The way to ad our info, I assume, is this: maureen.saponari@use.salvation.org

I think that is a great idea Jeff

Thanks Jeff!

I agree with Manuel..

Why don't you take the bull by the horns Jeff an copy and paste the reunion and periphery information listed as (Arrive  early - stay late) on the renion website and add all that to website you're talking about in the newspaper! You just might attract some of our missing classmates.

P.S. I wonder if there is a way to check these last 40 MIA's to see if they have passed away? Is there a Toledo Department  of Vital statistics? I am a bit removed from the area being in Hawaii but maybe you could look into that as well Jeff : )

Here is all that Information Jeff:

Whoa Nellie  Pat, you're barking up the wrong tree, based upon your postings, and how I receive a "mail" in my inbox, from you, that doesn't come thru this site, it is quite apparent you are a master at technical/magic,,  renderings.

I am completely computer illiterate, it's all I can do to read emails, "cut and paste"  hell I can't do that, had a hard enought time in 1st grade doing it then.  I posted to get the attention of the committie, by all means, use your talent to get our reunion listed on that page.

Hey guys, not to steel anyone's thunder but we already have discussed this and plan to do it. We also discussed placing a small ad in the weekend supplement in addition. We do appreciate your validating the idea though!

Oops, I have got to be quick, running in bit behind in schedule as I try to get everything ready for my next summer traveling adventure. Last month it was a trip to Turkey, this month its a trip to Florida (with a few stops along the way). I thought that I would look into the accuracy of all of those boadacious claims that Manuel keeps making about the advantages of living in Florida.

However, getting back to the business at hand, I wanted to share with you today the arrangements that Ed and I have made for this month’s “Fundango.” Apparently someone must have made quite an impression on Eddie regarding where they thought that our next “Fundango” should be because there was no question in Ed’s mind regarding the location of July's social venue.

So on Saturday we went there, had lunch, talked with the wait staff and (hopefully) made our arrangements. Much to our surprise, Tuesday was NOT the best night to schedule our event there, because it was their busiest day of the week. So our July “Fundango” will be on a Thursday this month.

If you have your social calendars available, mark Thursday, July 26th, 6 pm until whenever, at the Mayfly Tavern  (4532 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611). Hope that you all can make, unfortunately I cannot, but I will be thinking you all, right around sunset.

OK Manuel, I will concede that the Florida sunsets, on the Gulf coast, are very special indeed.

I sure never get tired of seeing those sunsets Dale they are just gorgeous. How long are you coming down for Dale.

The titles didnt come out right but you get my drift... Manual Florida ain't got nottin on Hawaii! ; )

Dale Benington

Manuel, I am hoping to leave for Florida, tomorrow, after dinner (I prefer the light highway traffic at night), to spend a couple of days in the Chattanooga area (lots of Civil War battlefields), and to arrive in Florida on Sunday the 15th. Then I should be leaving on Sunday the 29th, and doing some more wandering before I get home. Let me know if you want to hook up for lunch or dinner somewhere in between Venice and Naples.

Pat, that’s not quite true, Florida has a better financial structure for us fixed income retired folks. I could go down to Florida to live and the prospects for my little retirement nest egg would improve, but on the other hand, I could over to Hawaii to live and my little retirement nest egg would quickly evaporate, or at least, that’s my impression.

Dale, just how many people does the place hold, I seem to remember being there about 3 or 4 years ago after playing 18 holes, and my memory says that our table of 7, took up most of the seating area, am I correct, or out in the weeds
