I knew Ed, he was a nice, quiet guy. I think he was at Scott and moved into Start distric. He was friends with Rick Hoyt among others.

Greetings, I spoke with Ed earlier today and we have both been contacted by classmates that are eager for our monthly “Fundangoes” to be resumed. That said, Ed and I are tentatively looking at Tuesday, April 20th, at around 4:00 pm, at the Manhattan Pub (1518 Adams Street).

Our thinking is that Manhattan has a good size outdoor patio that we can take advantage of if the weather is nice, or move indoors if need be, which is why we are looking at a 4:00 pm start, so as to avoid the dinner crowd. Also Manhattan has a large free parking area, and best of all, Ed has some connections with the management.

We are waiting until April 20th to give more people the opportunity to get their shots, and hoping that the weather will be warmer so that we can gather outdoors.

So that is our thinking. Please feel free to share any input. And stay tuned for further developments.

Just a quick note. I spoke with Ed again today, and he has spoken with the management at the Manhattan Pub, and we are on for Tuesday, April 20th, at 4:00 pm. So go get your shots and plan on joining us as we renew our class "Fundangoes."

Questions Spartans, I just watched 20/20, the Gainsville, FL 1990 murders. One of the girl's name is Christa Hoyt. Her step mom mentioned Christa's dad is/was Gary Hoyt. Anyone know if Start's 1966 Gary Hoyt is the same? I didn't have much success with Google. Such a horrific crime.

Kathy,

This is definately a different Hoyt family. The father of Christa Leigh Hoyt was Ralph Gary Hoyt who was born in Florida in 1937. He went by Gary.

Kathy, I was working at Florida State University, two hours from the University of Florida in Gainesville, at the time of the murders. There was panic on Florida college campuses. Parents came to the FSU campus to pick up their kids, police were everywhere. (Remember that Ted Buddy committed his murders on the FSU campus so there was fear that this was some sort of copycat.) It was a huge relief when Danny Rolling was caught.

Thanks Mark and Jan. Glad it's not a Hoyt family we knew. I do remember Ted Bundy. I love the ID channel. Zac Efron played him well. So many sick people disguised as normal. So glad we have DNA and Ancestry available now.

I was living in Gainesville and teaching at the University of Florida when the murders occurred, and the brother of one of my students was the first suspect (subsequently cleared). There was total panic in the community for about a week, and the horror of it all still remains.

I can't imagine. No one could get over that. You just learn to "live" with it. Truth can be so much more evil than fiction.

Happy belated birthday Bill & Chip!!  Hope you guys had a great day!

Sorry I'm late, but I am still not receiving any message forum notifications or birthday notifications.

I will not be able to be at the April Fundango (I'll be in Myrtle Beach). Have a fun time, and hope to see everyone in May.  Miss everyone.

I am sad to report that our classmate Kim (Frisk) Jensen passed away from Covid-19 at St. Vincents on April 13th.  His sister called me tonight and asked me to let the class know.  A few weeks ago Kim called me and asked if we could get a Fandango started back up now that we are all vacinated, or close to it.  My subsequent contact with Ed and Dale resulted in the April 20th one at Manhattan's.  We will raise a toast to Kim for being a dedicated Great Class of '68 classmate. God Speed Kim, you will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to Kim's family.  Rest in peace Kim.

Oh No! Kim called me a few weeks ago... I mentioned that I had gotten my first vaccination and asked him if he had gotten his.. He told me that He wasn't going to get vaccinated because he had already survived covid and was immune.... I guess he must have contracted the disease a second time...So sorry to loose another classmate... :(.. Kim taught me how to do a flip off the 3 meter board out at Centennial back in the day. He was a good guy.. Catch you on the other side Kim.. :( please Spartans let this be a lesson.. Get vaccinated AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!!

So sorry to hear of the loss of Kim.  I have many fond memories of Kim with Greg and Kurt being goofy during high school.  He was a fun friend.  Rest in peace!
