The pictures of the last get together look great. I had open heart surgery on December 27 and will be recuperating for the next few months. Had to cancel our Florida stay for the first time in 17 years. It will be strange to experience an Ohio winter in a long time. Hope everyone is doing well. Getting old is not for the faint of heart.

WOW Greg - praying for a speedy & complete recovery!!  You're right - the aging process is not for sissies.  Prayers go out to all of our classmates struggling with health issues.  It makes you realize how blessed we are each day.   Again wishing everyone a happy & HEALTHY New Year!

I wish you a quick recovery Holo.  Sorry that you had to have surgery, but happy that it's even possible.   Back in the day there was little anyone could do.  We are blessed that a lot of hard work, determination, creativity and compassion enabled these life saving medical procedures to become routine!  All the best in 2024...

Greg, Sorry your holidays and vacation were cut short, but happy that you had your heart surgery and are now recuperating.  It is so wonderful how the medical world can heal hearts now.  Wishing you a full recovery and getting back to what you love to do.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I really never thought about getting this old. I know we are supposed to age gracefully but that’s just bs. I am leaving on Tuesday to spend 10 days on the Amazon (river not the warehouse!)on a boat with side trips into the jungle. Jello mosquitoes and piranhas.

Sorry that's supposed to be hello. Is there such a thing as senior fingers?

John Putnam "J.P." Smith

John Putnam "J.P." Smith obituary, Sylvania, OH

John Putnam "J.P." Smith, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, peacefully surrounded by family in the comfort of his home. He was born on January 20, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Kenneth and Anna Smith.

J.P. attended Start High School, where he graduated in 1968. He proudly served as the Coast Guard Reserve, retiring as Lieutenant Commander. He also retired as Sergeant at the Toledo Police Department, where he was dedicated, hardworking, and respected. He had obtained his Bachelors degree from the University of Toledo. Prior to his retirement from the police department, he went to law school at night, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1998. He continued working as an attorney for the next 25 years.

A man of faith, he was a lifelong and active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. His faith was very important to him and all aspects of his day to day life. J.P. was an avid collector of many things: train photos, stamps, and cars. He loved getting out on the golf course, traveling, his church, helping others', and above all, his family. The time spent together and the memories created will forever be missed by his loved ones. J.P.'s love and infectious smile will forever be missed by those who knew him. This is not goodbye, but we will see you again!

Start High 68 golfers in Fort Myers  golfing - from right to left Dave Dugai, Arnie Fretz, Gary Krieger and Chip Carstensen (my arm is around Bill who was there in spirit).  Had a great time together, but we won't get into how we played.  It was windy(20 mph winds), but sunny and warm.  Cocktails and dinner after!  Awesome day!
