Thank you Pat. Happy Year of The Tiger to you. I have one question for you though. Have you got used to being retired yet? Have you figured out retirement? Hope you are enjoying it and playing a lot of golf course that's pretty much what I do

Greetings,

Happy almost St. Valentine’s Day. And speaking of which, on the day after St. Valentine’s Day, Tuesday February 15th, we are planning on having our February “Fundango.”

After consulting with our staff of expert, Toledo Metro-area, social life advisors, we have decided to convene February’s version of our monthly social event, at the much beloved and nostalgic, Inky’s Italian Restaurant, which is located at 3945 N. Detroit Ave., and will start at 3:30 and last until whenever.

So bring your high school memories, and lets all gather together at one of our favorite high school haunts, and we can spend some time talking, sharing, and connecting once again.

Hope to see you all there.

Gregory Roytek 1949-2022

Gregory Roytek, age 72, resident of Wauseon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 28, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Bernice (Greenaway) Roytek.

A graduate of Start High School, he went on to work at Walker Ambulance as an EMT. From there, he went to Chilly Things as a truck driver and had retired at Chrysler for 18 years. Greg had a passion for trains; he loved everything about them. His interest came from his father working on the railroad. A lover for outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and mowing the lawn. Greg enjoyed playing cards and Pac-Man, listening to Doo-Wop, Elvis, traveling with his family, watching Notre Dame and the Detroit Tigers. With never having a lesson, Greg played the violin and guitar very well. Greg loved eating pizza and drinking root beer. His family will miss his famous pancakes, "Poppies Pancakes", where his grandchildren would look forward to them every morning. Greg was very social with a great sense of humor; he would ask anyone he saw if they could scratch his back; always leaving someone with a smile. He coached his daughters softball teams and played catch them with. He and his two daughters would also catch night crawlers in the middle of the night; memories that they will forever cherish. Known as being very adventurous, he loved riding go karts, four wheelers, and golf cart. The memories that were made with his friends and family will be something they will cherish forever.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are his two loving daughters, Jenny (Sam Dahlke) Roytek and Melissa (Danny Rome) Roytek; grandchildren, Gregory, Gavin, Danny, and Haley; special friend and soulmate, Pam Roytek; brother, Jeff Roytek; and a special niece, Megan (Jay) Rork.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Roytek; and an Aunt, Helen Heitman.

Thanks Jan for the news about the Start girls basketball team!  We didn't even have a team.  I was so frustrated in high school with the lack of sports for girls.  I played on the church softball team with Pat Martin. Later, I competed in sports from the college cross-country ski team to masters level Olympic weightlifting.  If we'd had Title IX, some of us could have gotten college scholarships for athletics.  Times have changed in a good way and these girls will benefit from their experience with teamwork and meeting challenges.

Thanks for the sweet birthday 🎂 wishes sent my way. Who would have thought way back when that the 70's really wouldn't feel so old ( just a BIG number) 😊

Many of you knew my brother Tom, a 1970 graduate of Start. Tom passed away Saturday night in Naples, Fl, while on vacation. At his request, there will be no services. My brother and I were very close and this is by far the most heartbreaking event of my life. Tom married Joan Love, another Start grad in 1993.

Jan,

I am sorry for your loss.  I did not know your brother.  My prayers go out for you and his family.  My brother is here visiting from Toledo.  It gives pause realizing as we get older, there will be fewer times we will be together.

Jan, So sorry to hear of your brothers passing. My prayers go out to you and your family. I am glad to hear that you and him were so close.

I know a lot of you knew my sister Teri, after almost 36 yrs of no contact we are now talking with each other and I am so glad we are.

She is doing good and lives in South Carolina. Those of you who also knew my mother, Teri looks just like her.

Life is to short to not forgive family and friends of things that happened in the past.

Jan, I am so sorry you lost your brother.  I, too, am very close to my brother and know I would be shattered to lose him.  I already lost my youngest sister.  I'm sending you healing light and love.

Happy to report that after spending 4 days in Castle Hospital and receiving WONDERFUL care and two liters of O Negative blood. (I asked for O positive so that I might get a better outlook on life but... No such luck ;) )
I'm back at home with my Queen and two of my Daughters who flew in from the Mainland to help us out! (I sure hope their arms didn't get to tired on the trip over)
Looks like HP isn't interested in me yet so I'm going to try and regain some strength and start living life again.
Aloha and Mahalo for all your positive thoughts!

P.S. Mike Zielenski!!!If you are of Ukrainian ancestry I am proud of your countrymen! Bottles against tanks!! OoooooRaaaaah F-U Putin
